Given all polititions are as selfish and narrow minded as the last I doubt a better job will be done Just a different party name and a bunch of people looking out for number 1 under the veil of running the country - like any political party

It doesn't matter who is in power whether it be Labour or Liberal because until our whole political system is overhauled we will continue on the same merry go round. The governments give Ford 2 huge bailouts and many other companies as well and yet they still bailed on Australia. That money should have been put into our farmers to sustain our self sufficiency in agriculture instead of letting countries such as China and the Arab countries buying up our farm land so that they will be able to supply food to their own countries instead of our farmers supplying food to the world. Every financially successful country in this world is where the government owns all utilities and other income producing endeavours so they have more than 1 income stream for the country and yet Australian politicians have sold our assets until the only way for them to get money is through taxes. At this moment I am ashamed of every politician that is out there as they are not representing what Australians want and they are not making sound decisions to ensure the security and prosperity for now and way into the future. The last sound decision made by a government is when Paul Keating brought in compulsory superannuation to ensure that the aging population would not be solely reliant on government funds. That was the last time a politician showed forethought and therefore Australians were forearmed for the future.

Also all foreign aid should be stopped until our own country is back on its feet with no waiting lists in our hospitals, our agricultural industry is whole and healthy again. Charity begins at home.

No! Even our poorest live like kings beside many in the 3rd world. We should be taxing our obscenely rich more and helping out the starving peoples of the world.  We can improve our lives and also give a little to those who have nothing. Read Peter Singer's book The Life You Can Save.

This clown that we (not me) have given the Top Job will not even listen to the United Nations findings about Ctimate Change and Carbon Pollution! He is so retrogade that he still does not understand the benefits of optic fibre for fast broadband, he still insists that COPPER wire will take us into the 22nd Century. What a bloody loser!

Tony Abott is stuck in a 1950s TIME WARP.  You must rememer that he thinks that John Howard was the greastest man eho ever lived  on earth......   Go Figure the mentality then. NO VISION for the FUTURE means NO HOPE for OUR COUNTRY... He has some good ideas, but weather he implements them or not is a different story. Det with the technologicval times Tony and co... FIBER is the only way to go. COPPER should be left in place only as a last stand backup.  just like the old battery operated telephone exchanges..  Digital is great when it works... but it can be very very tempremental.. analogue with copper may be archacic, but it is still the most reliable in case of a disaster.

The clowns are the people who blindly voted without doing any reading or research into what is the best for the country. How long does it take to read up online about the people who were on the Senate paper and voting below the line according to your personal decision as to who would be the best senators? Not long when you consider how important that vote is, but instead most people mindlessly voted above the line and look at the result, people who had practically no primary vote are now deciding our country's future!

We need to give them a chance.. At the moment Tony Abbott is copping it from all fronts But stop and think. It was J.G n K.R. that got us to this place good n bad, more bad for lower income. They brought in over seas workers, which were than mistreated here by the companies they worked for.. Where were your unions then? By the time people pay rent n other bills, where does food money come from? So Stop Bagging Out and start to offer a little support and prayer that our country can b turned around.. Families are most important, work, food, freedom, these things matter most..

"They brought in over seas workers, which were than mistreated here by the companies they worked for." Where is the evidence for that? This is an example of media manipulation to influence people to change their vote. Such issues have been simplified in order to mislead. Please people, read details about such things, don't just listen to the slogans trotted out by the shock jocks. They sound all very sensible but don't just listen to one side of the story, investigate the facts before you make up your mind. When you hear a political party being demonised, do some research and decide for yourself after that. It is all too easy to believe the stories of shock jocks and as a result we have Tony Abbott running the country!

Bobby2171 you are right plants do need CO2 to survive. However to much CO2 causes warming, an increase in deserts and more water requirements of plants when water on thre planet is drying up.  CO2 is used by plants but they need other things as well. Extra CO2 is only suitable inside of a highly controlled enclosed spaces like greenhouses on not OK out in the natural world. I also do my research and find other places to get my information about Climate Change. I prefer to ignore anything printed by Rupert Murdoch, Telegraph, The Australian and another rag called the Herald sun. I also like to ignore people like Andrew Bolt of The Bolt Report, Channel 10 and Steve Price a guest commentator on The Project, Channel 10. There seems to be any number of forms of media devoted to Climate Change denial but I refuse to be influenced by this and choose to get my information from media, websites etc that are the opinion of the majority of scientists. The (old) Climate Change Commission website is still going and is well worth a look at with plenty of good information on it. Also skepticalscience.com is another. So I agree with you there, its good to get your information from other sources and its also good to do the research.

I agree with Booga in Qld. Cambell Newman tried to get a pay rise through parliament that would have seen him get paid more than the president of the United States. The guy is up himself, he thinks he's worth more than the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Trying to give himself and MP's a pay rise while sacking workers. Unfortunately we have put into power a man who cannot string 10 words together to make a sentence without stopping to think what the next word should be.  A man who thinks that John Howard is the greatest person in the world... Maybee he thinks John Howard is GOD...    A man who knows BETTER than 90% of the WORLD's climatologists who agree that Global Warming is happening,  Tony Abbot doesn't believe in such rubbish....because he knows better than the world's scientists........  To prove he was not being a sexist, he put Julie Bishop into the position of Foreign Minister.  This woman is going to be the FACE of Australia to the WORLD....... At least Julia Gillard got some respect.... I wonder how much respect Julie Bishop will get from the governments of the world?  Good Luck Australia you GOT what you voted for......  Don’t whinge when the rest of the world thinks we are a joke and treats like one......  The Liberal Party believe in ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY....  ALL POWER and WEALTH to the few who have had the privilege to go to  a PRIVATE school...  and may ALL BIG BUSINESS make Many Billions $ profit, so that the select few who can afford 1,000s of their shares can become richer and put those in the LOWER Socio-economic position in their RIGHTFULL place....  Slaves to BIG Business. Only Time will tell if Australia can hold it's own with the rest of the world.  Tony Abbott has already insulted our strongest and nearest Asian neighbour with his "Turn Back the Boats" policy, and saying that he will pay Indonesian people to spy on each other......We are starting to sound like China, Russian And North Korea...  Are going to become a POLICE state too???? We are the lucky country, and lets keep it that way.  Stop giving our country away to foreign governments,  stop giving Foreign Aid to Wealthy countries, stop giving foreigh aid to corrupt countries,  Start looking after our aged pensioners, our homeless, our disabled, and our veterans.  This should be the TRUE charter of any government, regardless of their orientation.  Look After Australians FIRST, Second and LAST..  Then look after the rest of the world. Just remember this " The bigest threat to a nations security, is the belief that there is no threat " A complacent government does nothing to help the situation......

CO2 is a vital nutrient for the plant kingdom!!  Without it the plants do not survive.  In hot houses over the world CO2 is pumped into them for the plants to grow.   Climate change has been happening since beginning of  time and will continue till the end of time There are more dangerous chemicals and heavy metals geting pumped into our atmosphere that they don't want you to know about.  What do you think happens to waste uranium, alumimium, soduim floride, etc, etc?  Have you ever research geo-engineering?  GMO Foods? As for being a police state you don't have to look far to America!  That's pretty scarey what Obama is doing to the country over there!!  But again unless to research away from the main media sources you will not find out. Great to see this LNP Government planning to address foreign owned land here.  It was frustrating watching Gillard/Rudd allowing it to be all sold out.  Also glad LNP is addressing foreign aid.  look after our own people first, which the Labor Government didn't do!!  Send more money overseas, yet take money away from single parents, pensions etc

No.  They will not be any better.  The previous Government was perceived to be bad because of the antics of Abbott and his unwillingness to discuss anything.  A good Government requires a good opposition and we had neither.  Abbott will now spend his time destroying the achievements of the previous government to satisfy himself, regardless of the value of them, but he will achieve nothing because that is what his policies are all about.

Yes the Liberals believe in as little government as possible, so they will do only what they feel they have to do to stay in power. They want to trim "red tape" as they call it, but this runs the risk of allowing people who will take advantage of the rest of us being more successful at ripping us of eg the coal seam mining / fracking dabacle. We need government to implement regulations to prevent such rip offs. One of the major reasons for the GFC is the U.S. government didn't regulate the banks and lending authorities properly.

Abbott and his government think they are the 'suppository' of all knowledge. He's proved this by getting rid of the Climate Change Commission and Professor Tim Flannery, who obviously would know more about Climate Change than Tony Abbott. He is trying to control his image and that is why he wants to stay out of the limelight. He's into mind control - hiding the number of boats that arrive so it looks as though he is 'stopping the boats' like he promised he would. Good on the people of Christmas Island for letting the media know when they arrive. Abbott is just in league with greedy capitalists who would be quite happy to take us back to the past, where people worked for 18 hous plus a day for a pittance just to survive, while they increase their profits and destroy the planet, and fly around in their private planes and sit on gold plated toilets. His best mate is Rupert Murdoch, who is a greedy, power hungry old man,  who makes a living out of tapping dead peoples phones just to get a news story, and meddles in politics in other peoples countries through misinformation in the media he owns.   Australians just got brainwashed.

It took a while for him to get sworn in, I guess he didn't expect to be elected, but at least after waiting he can say "we hit the ground running". I expect a great deal of spin and very little substance. His government has already indicated, they will defer advising the press of arrivals of little wooden boats. (if we don't say anything it doesn't happen?) Tony Abbot has also indicated we will hear less from him after the election. He'll let his ministers cop the heat ,but no doubt will appear when there is some credit due or to re- assign portfolios when wrong decisions are obvious. I expect more of what we got leading up to the election - Long on vague promises and short on delivery.  That's what we voted for.

Tonys vision is for an overpopulated mine pit with underpaid worker ants   so that a small portion of the  lucky ones can profit off the poorest and the richer can keep thier heads in the sand.  As the lower economic sectors of the public struggle more crime rises. Australia has always had a proud history of looking after the poor but the gap between rich and poor is growing at rapid rate. If we are not carefull we will become like the capialist USA who has somthing like 5 percent of their population in jails and prison. This results in far more being spent on police, courts etc than would ever of had to be spent on welfare in the first place. Besides being unhuman it is very short sited to pressure the poorest people. It would be great if every body worked a good paying job but the fact will always be there that not everybody is employable. How a country is rated as first world is by how they treat their poor and disadvantaged. People on disability allowance can live on $35 per day whilst he will pay the queen bees 75k to have a baby. But wait he will let the pooresest work a little more to help themselves- is ok for those that can but for the hardest  done by like disableld allowance (not pension) that cannot work on the  side tuff luck or as his implanted daughters may say " tuff tittys".

Well as a pensioner under the Howard government, I was better off financially than I was under the Rudd/Gillard government. So Labour wasn't helping the pensioners - can't you remember the street "sit-ins" under the Labour Government when the ladies stripped down to their bras and brought traffic to a halt. Governments can only pay out what they receive in taxes and if they have to pay off a debt and interest on that debt then they will have a lot less to pay out to the populace either in reduced taxes, more benefits for pensioners, increased NDIS schemes, more hospital funding and give back more to the States so they can reduce their taxes on you and give pensioners greater rebates. Makes sense??? Tont Abbott had to wait 10 days till he knew who was going to be in his cabinet - maybe we should wait a little longer to see what happens.

Political fact: Labor delivered the biggest the biggest increase to the pension in more than a century. http://www.politifact.com.au/trut h-o-meter/statements/2013/may/29/jenny-macklin/biggest-age-pension-rise-more-cen tury/. In times of recession it is a well known economic fact that stimulus is the best road to recovery and if recovery doesn't happen we will all be worse off. Also Labor is about improving our education system and the most successful countries in the future will be the smart ones. Abbott wants to keep the unequal and inefficient education sytem we have now thanks to Howard.

As you just stated, they have just been sworn into power! I guess that we shall just have to wait and see who will actually be the real leader, will it be Tony Abbott or the three daughter Abbott's. I am so sick of seeing them hanging around all dressed in white and stupid smiles on their faces. If Tony Abbott keeps his word then they should do a much better job than the recent Government, however we shall just have to wait and see, it's early days yet. I can not help but remember that old saying just give them enough rope and they will hang themselves. Who knows, guess we will just have to wait and see!

The Liberals just think they were born to rule and can never handle it when they get voted out. Tony Abbott told the independents Rob Oakshott and Tony Windsor in the election against Gillard that he would do anything to become Prime Minister and he did. He lied and avoided discussing any of the issues. At least Gillard and Rudd had the guts and strength of character to front the Q and A audiences on the ABC and answer the difficult questions that this type of show asks. Abbott is gutless.  His getting rid of the science portfolio and The Climate Change Commision shows to me how he is anti knowledge. I think he still believes the earth is flat. I just don't believe he will govern for all Australians, he does not have an overwhelming mandate anyway.

Climate has been changing since the beinging of time and will continue till the end of time!!!  CO2 is a vital nutrient for the plants to grow so we all can eat. No plants not us!!!!  All you that belive in CO2 as a major force in climate change need to probably go back and study basic science again.  There are many more dangerous things pumped in our atmosphere that they don't what you to know about!!  Where do you think all the depleted uranium goes, aluminium, sodiom floride (that too goes in our water!! and it is a bass ingredient for the CMD Sarin!!!) etc, etc.  Have you considered how dangerous geo engineering is?  GMO foods are?  The list can go on and on.  So intead of follow the propaganda, do some research on these things.

The Liberals dont believe in climate change, therefore they will never take any preventive action.  Their focus is upon increasing their own personal wealth and the gains of the rich.  They continue to talk focus on the "deserving' and "undeserving" poor as thier 19th centuary counterparts did. History will judge their folly of rescinding action to address climate change.

It is the professional scientists who majored in climate science at university who are warning the world's population about climate change. Should we believe the experts or people like Abbott who know nothing of the science? Fact is that the majority of scientists say it is a critical problem and they have the credentials so we should put our trust in them and not the sceptics who have vested interests in not pursuing change and who only care about their wallets now instead of the future for the world's children.

Yes- the coalition has been shown to be interested in governing the country for the benefit of all Australians and have shown they will not bow to pressure from vocal minority groups. The coalition has always been able to resolve the daily issues they face, promptly and responsibly as opposed to Labour's cowardly tendency towards forming $5 to $500 million, "minority led" committess, to disuss, debate and then resolve these, almost daily, issues for them, in order to give themselves an out, by blaming an external committee, for any decisions that may be seen to be unpopular with some sectors of the public. The coalition is in the business of governing the country for the benefit of all Australians and they have done and will always do, what they perceive to be the best thing for the country as opposed to Labour's ongoing and crippling obsession with winning the next election, which had them place the job of governing the country in second place to this obsession.

Really? The world grows warmer and Abbot sacks the climate change people. The boats still keep coming and Abbto stops telling us about them.Gillard brought in good social polcies against Abbot's continuing negativity. Who do you think the NBN benefits? Not just householders but business too I believe. Did you watch Abbot at all during the last years? He had nothing positive to say about anything, but plenty to say in a negative way. Did you see the dignity with whichJjulia Gillard faced him down and the media too, I might add. Now just take a look at who is emulating Julia Gillard's style.

When the country has problems the population votes for a sociialist government because they all want security as during the GFC When time are good the population votes for a laissez-fair (Stuff you Jack I'm alright) type of govermnent which basically means the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The coalition partyy cancel all of the policies that are for the good of all and introduce policies that benefit large companies and the meger rich and the media convince their readers that that will be great for the ordinary worker.

How come its OK for Western Australian Liberal Premier to have a deficit in his budget but it wasn't OK for the federal government under Gillard/Rudd. WA Premier Colin Barnet claims the reason he is running a deficit is that he has been building up the infrastructure of his state. Well what do the Liberals think Gillard/Rudd were doing but building infrastructure. Oh thats right its different when the Liberals have a deficit. The Liberals are such a bunch of hypocrites and liars. Along with the Murdoch press and co, they told a lie often enough so that people believed it. I am so sick of some of the commentry about Abbott's daughters too, and how "wonderful they look in their Australian designer label clothes". What rubbish, like they are some sort of political royalty or ' first family '. People in the real world are doing it tough and it is beyond them to afford designer label clothes Australian or otherwise.

The country is in the red ( in debt to the eyeballs), I think you mean back in the black (which is when we are debt free).  Australia has never been in a good position whilst Labor are in, but lots like Labor because they see above the handouts that they dish out while they are destroying the country.  Liberals are looking out for the country as a whole not just that of the individuals hip pocket.  You complain about the rich but it is the rich that are the ones whose taxes pay for those who use the public schooling, bludge on the dole, those who use bulkbilling for their medical care, those who don't have private health insurance.  I paid for my children to go to private school and the benefits I got were a drop in the ocean compared to what I have paid in taxes and those mentioned above to ride on my coat tails, and by the way I am not that rich I just chose to do without a lot to give my children the best and to pay my way.   So for those of you who cry poor get off your behind and do something for yourselves other than being parasites, I did.

Wasting and poisoning the water table  via CSG extraction for a quick 10 year cash grab is not looking after the farmers. This immoral misuse of Australian recources will just results in the bigger farmers being bribbed from the land and the smaller farmers poisoned out of the market and from their much loved farms. Im not saying Labour is not is not also guilty of such reckless cash grabs but at least they are a bit more transparent and fight for a better slice of what belongs to all Australians not just the mining giants and the lucky few employed by the mining sector. Considering Australians only retain 20-30percent of the profit (the rest gos back to korea, USA etc who are the main players in the gas industry) from CSG extraction is it worth risking all our underground water?. Tony Cirtainly thinks so - the more the better as its just free money to him- 20 percent is great when it costs no money and by the time any impacts are felt the goverment would have changed anyhow and they can just blame others.

It remains to be seen whether Tony Abbott and the Liberals do represent all Austrlians and work to improving the lives of all Austrlians. The Liberals never have in the past so why would they all of a sudden start now. They are mostly concerned about the rich in this country. I noticed there was a few Liberal MP's complaining already about things, i.e getting rid of the Science Portfolio and the lack of women MP's in Cabinet. So even the Liberals squabble and back stab.  Yes the Labor Party had its problems but I think they did some good things for this country, in the past and just recently. They need to get back to their roots and start to stand for something different instead of a carbon copy of the Liberals, which is what they have become. I refuse to be brainwashed by the Murdoch press and others and get my information about what is going on in this country and the world from other sources that practice the rules of a free and unbiased press.
