Illegal Wildlife Trade

What is your opinion on illegal wildlife trade? Some of which includes "the poaching of elephants for ivory and tigers for their skin and bones" (Source: http://worldwildl ife.org/threats/illegal-wildlife-trade).

I'm 100% against poaching or any type of cruelty to animals. It shows what terrible things humans are capable of. Its all about the $$$.   These poor animals have to  suffer in pain & die a senseless death just so people  can use it for their own selfish reasons.                          &n bsp;            &nbs p;      More needs to be done to protect these beautiful creatures. Theres always another money hungry human out there ready to make a quick dollar illegally & theres always a selfish one who thinks there number 1 ready to buy it. Is very upsetting

I just watched a show with some friends about Black Bears. Do you know that some poachers take the baby black bears away from their mothers, and lock them into tiny, tiny cages? These poor little bears are forced into these small spaces and just left. There is no room to move, they just lay there and thats it! How cruel is that. The look of fear in there eyes is heartbreaking. I wish that I could free them all. It's so sad.

There would be no slaughter of Elephants, Rhinos etc. if people stopped buying ivory ornaments and other products produced from the animals.  The carnage would stop if there wasn't a market for it.       this carnage.  It would                         products made from

everything possible should be done to stop it. This might include providing training and sustinance to the villages who are the ones who are at the nottom of the trade so they can make a living without participating in it.

I think this is just as discusting as people trading. These people need to be traded themselves on the black market for 6 months to see how they like it. Who died and made them god and gave them the right to trade animals. No wonder these animals dont trust humans I dont blame them I dont trust a lot of humans and I am human just imagine how they think. These are the type of people who if they got hurt when tracking these animals they would want medical help straight away but they are quite happy to let an injured animal that they cant sell die a slow and painful death. We were not put on this earth to do things like that to animals, throw them in a cage and use them for breakfast, lunch and tea. A few less poachers in the world is a better thing. The buyers of these animals never get mentioned which they are worse than the poachers, no buyers no poachers. The government needs to wake up open their eyes stop wasting money and time on things that dont matter or things that cant be changed and worry about the real problems and try to change them.

It is an unfolding tragedy what is happening with wildlife, partucularly in Africa. It is likely that we are the last Generation to be able to view Elephants in their natural (wild) habitat; within a decade or two it will only be possible to view thest magnificent animals in a Zoo!

Unfortunately,  Man is destructive by nature and no matter what we do we can not stop all people from killing, trapping etc.  A lot of this comes back to the Asian beliefs of animal body parts being 'good medicine'  But we must also take greed into consideration.  The trade in animal parts, and animals is extremely lucrative and so we will always have this problem.  there need to be tougher penalties for all traffickers in animals and animal parts and medicines etc and these should apply from the top (corrupt politicians and king pins) to the bottom feeders (actual poachers)  Not sure how we go about this but hopefully one day someone will come up with a way to do it.

Anybody involved in this trade from poacher to Mr Big should be treated as they treat the animals, i.e. if they shoot, shoot them, if they trap then trap them.

It is really like stolen property as long as there is a market for it people will keep stealing. I think they should make it an automatic Goal sentence. First offence one year in Goal  second offence five years in Goal  and so forth then we might see  a drop in poaching

Governments should prosecute the end users of parts/products of endangered animals and all the people in the chain, If there is no demand, the poachers will make no money from such murders.

I find the killing of any wild life abhorrent; especially for no other reason than greed, fashion or archaic "traditions". In this modern age, it seems many people just want more, without thought to the consequences to wildlife or their habitat. The impact will be felt by all of us eventually. Ignorance is no longer an excuse, as most people involved know that what they are doing is wrong, and illegal.

I think illegal trade in animal parts is disgusting as the animals are innocent parts in the activity. Also when this happens the people doing it usually don't care how the animal(s) feel, and illegal wildlife trade adds to animals becoming extinct or endagered which is very bad for future generations. I don't like it one bit. These poachers are going into the animals natural habitat and showing no remorse. These people should be thrown into a cage that they barely fit and then let out in a fence area with people randomly shooting at them see how they like it! I also think its pathetic that people are buying these products for what they are.

One of the most Cold Hearted things on this planet is I am sorry to say is Man Kind! People do not care what they hurt or destroy, or make extinct just so long as they get what they want. Wether it may be Ivory from Elephants, by the way they leave the Elephants in agony, they do not use the animals for food they are just dumped, and left. Tigers, skins are a ornament. I could go on for hours, but it won't make any difference. Man will just go on his merry way destroying here and there, untill there is nothing left. They smuggle small animals, birds, snakes, lizards etc.in socks, tiny boxes, and sadly they do not survive. I just wonder how they would like it if they had limbs removed or peices taken for decoration and ornamental purposes!! If people do not back off all that we will have are memories, how very sad that will be for all our children who will miss out on so much. A Photo is just that a Photo. Not the same as thr real thing.

I think the poachers should be put in aposition where they have to face the type of animals they are killing, with no weapons to help them. I am not usually so sadistic but hey this is one place where I believe Tit for tat.

It is atrocious and cruel.  I know many of the poachers are only just surviving, so if their governments stopped the wars, stealing the money from the country and allowed people to live honestly it will kill most of the trade.  As for those idiots who think it helps their penis grow bigger, their hairs stronger and their teeth white or what ever, get a life, and stop buying.  Shark fish soup should be banned in every country, and the fisherman have their bits chopped off instead.

How  absolutley cruel can greedy people be . Seriously does mankind have no shame in what they do. These animals deserve protection from our goverments if we continue to butcher these animals we  run the risk of losing them to extinction. These animals need to be protected and the laws need tp get tougher in protecting them from greedy people.

When is it ok to kill just because you feel like it? Yes money is being made but it is the big behind the scenes guy not the poacher making the money, so they need to find the money makers. If people didn't use the products than we wouldn't have the poaching.. Vainity.

I think its terrible and very upsetting I love animals and hate to see anything cruel happen to them let alone the 'illegal wildlife trade' for elephant tusks, tiger skins and rhino horn. I hate the destruction of their habitat too. The sumatran tiger, the orangutang and the polar bear to name a few. Animals aren't like us they cannot famr for their food they need their environment and to be left to live their life the way they are meant to. Something needs to be done to stop this illegal trade - the governments of the countries that are trading in this have to put a stop to it. Ban it and throw people in jail who are involved. Also educating people about it. I just want to leave a quote from a famous philosopher Emmanuel Kant. "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with man. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals".

The people who kill animals for profit, do so either to support their families or purely for greed. A lot of this is fueled by Asian beliefs that the various body parts provide medicines or male fertility. Most of us will know that Rhino horns for example are made of Keratin; ie the same as common hair. How deluded are these people?! The biggest problem comes from habitat destruction, especially in rainforests, where the biggest biodiversity is being eliminted. So what happens ultimately, is that man will back himself into a corner from which there is no return. Suck those eggs!! I would like to add one point. The forests where the Orangutan live are being slashed to grow Palm Oil, so why are we buying products that promote Palm Oil Certified plantations? We see the expanses of plantations, so I don't see how these can be certified when the the Orangutan are forced into shrinking habitat.
